About the Children's Glaucoma Foundation

The Children's Glaucoma Foundation (
http://www.childrensglaucoma.com ) is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization dedicated to
supporting programs for children with glaucoma.

The Children's Glaucoma Foundation was formed by a group of physicians, parents of children with glaucoma, and concerned citizens.  Childhood glaucoma is a rare disease occurring in 1 in 10,000 children.  Yet, this disease is a leading cause of blindness in infants and children.

Many parents are unaware children can have glaucoma.  Pediatricians and primary doctors infrequently see children with glaucoma.  Because of this, a child's glaucoma may go unrecognized before the child experiences vision loss.

The Children's Glaucoma Foundation was founded to support programs for children with glaucoma. We are trying to increase awareness of the symptoms and encourage parents and physicians to screen infants and children.  Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to prevent vision loss.

David S. Walton, M.D., president of the Children's Glaucoma Foundation, is a clinical professor of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School, and surgeon in Ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is recognized for his care of children with glaucoma.

Support Opportunities

The foundation welcomes volunteer help.  For example, we have flyers, which are strictly educational, that could be distributed to pediatricians and nursery schools.  There are many other volunteer opportunities.
